One man has died and a woman was seriously injured in a serious two-vehicle, head-on collision on Highway 2A south of Crossfield on Tuesday, RCMP said.
The Crossfield Fire Department responded to the crash at 5:15 p.m. where they found the injured drivers, both in their 20s and the sole occupants of the vehicles.
EMS took them to Calgary-area hospitals and said a man was in critical life-threatening condition and a woman was in stable, non-life-threatening condition.
“One of the drivers, a 23-year-old male, later succumbed to his injuries in hospital,” RCMP said in a news release Wednesday.
Weather and road conditions were not factors in the crash, police said.
RCMP said traffic was diverted around the collision scene to Range Road 11 for several hours.
Highway 2A was reopened around 9:30 p.m. Tuesday.
“Airdrie RCMP is asking anyone who may have witnessed the collision and did not speak with an officer at the scene, to contact the Airdrie RCMP Detachment at 403-945-7267,” police said.
