Montreal police have confirmed that a threat meant for a school in the United States led to Beaconsfield High School in Montreal being closed for the day.
Officers received a 911 call around 8:15 a.m. about threats that had allegedly been made on social media.
Police set up a perimeter around the school and students were sent home.
“If it’s unfounded, it’s unfounded, but we are not going to take any chances,” said Montreal police spokesperson Andrée-Anne Picard.

One parent told Global News his two kids started texting him, saying they didn’t know what was happening, but their school bus had turned around to bring them home.
“I was extremely nervous for the kids’ safety,” said parent Christian Besner.
“I get a text message from the oldest. She tells me the bus is turning around — there’s a lock down at the school.”
As a precaution, the school was closed for the day while police investigated.
The threat was actually meant for Brunswick High School in Georgia, U.S.
“It was a 16-year-old juvenile who sent out the message,” confirmed Glynn County Police Chief of Staff Brian Scott, confirming the teen was arrested Monday afternoon.
“We received inquiries from other states with schools that had similar initials.”
There were no students inside Beaconsfield High School at the time.
