Charges have been stayed against a man accused of selling drugs to a 16-year-old girl who later fatally overdosed.
Muhammed Chambas had been facing one count of trafficking a controlled substance.
Trafficking of “Schedule I” drugs, which includes MDMA, can be punishable by up to 10 years in prison.
The stay of proceedings was issued Aug. 7, and all future court dates have been cancelled.
Chambas was arrested last July, in connection with the death of New Westminster teen Angel Loyer-Lawrence.
She and a friend both overdosed in May 2017 after taking pills they had bought from a street-level dealer.
Loyer-Lawrence died, while her friend was hospitalized.
At the time, investigators said they had concerns that an unknown lethal drug was circulating in the community.
Lab tests later revealed the drug to be MDMA.
Global News has requested comment from the Public Prosecution Service of Canada on why the charges were stayed.
