Officials say the upgrades will better connect the downtown core with the University of British Columbia Okanagan campus.

They add that the improvements will benefit commuters to areas north of downtown including the Quail Ridge residential area, the Kelowna Airport and the Industrial Park.

The project is budgeted at $50 million. B.C.’s share is $32.2 million.

Construction is expected to begin next year and should be completed by Fall 2016.
