The Calgary Police Service’s (CPS) traffic unit is investigating after one of its officers was involved in a crash at the intersection of Heritage and Elbow drives on Friday.
CPS said in a post on Facebook the officer was responding to a panic alarm that had been activated in a home on Chinook Drive after failed attempts to contact the people in the home by phone.
Investigators believe the officer had emergency lights and sirens on and was trying to safely make a turn in the intersection when the vehicles collided.
The occupants of the other vehicle — a child and two adults — were taken to hospital as a precaution. Once in hospital, it was determined one adult had sustained serious, non-life-threatening injuries in the crash.
The officer was not injured.
CPS said a full investigation is under way to determine what happened to cause the crash.
Anyone who may have witnessed the crash or has information that might be useful to the investigation is asked to contact police at 403-567-4000 or to contact Crime Stoppers.
