Charges dismissed against NS Mountie after alleged assaults

ANTIGONISH, N.S. – Assault charges have been dropped against an RCMP officer from northeastern Nova Scotia on the day his trial was expected to begin.

Const. Luc MacInnis of Antigonish was charged last October with two counts of common assault after a domestic violence complaint.

The charges were in connection with alleged incidents in December 2011 and June 2012.

MacInnis’s trial was expected to start today in Antigonish, but provincial court was told the Crown would not be entering evidence because a conviction in the case was unlikely.
