Two women face charges after an incendiary post on a Flin Flon Facebook page that called for “a 24-hour purge” and a “shoot an Indian day.”
The posts appeared Saturday after one woman had her new vehicle vandalized. The woman ranted online, blaming the local Indigenous community for the damage.
In the comments, she then said that she would “kill some Indians” and talked about putting together a day to shoot Indigenous people.
The second woman agreed with her, and suggested getting a shotgun and alcohol.
Screenshots of the post quickly made the rounds on social media and prompted immediate outrage, and the hair salon where the first woman worked fired her.
The first woman apologized the next day, explaining she was angry and upset about her vehicle being tagged.
However, several people in the comments said they called RCMP about the posts.
Manitoba RCMP said the two women now face charges, and a third arrest is pending.
“Two of the three female suspects, a 32-year-old female from Flin Flon and a 25-year-old female from Denare Beach, SK, have been arrested by RCMP for Uttering Threats and Public Incitement of Hatred,” said RCMP.
“A third arrest is pending for the same charges. All three suspects are cooperating with police.”
RCMP are not identifying the women until charges have been laid.
