Jets’ Trouba awarded $5.5 million by arbitrator

Winnipeg Jets defenceman Jacob Trouba has been awarded a one year, $5.5 million dollar contract by an arbitrator.

Trouba and the Jets began the arbitration hearing process Friday morning in Toronto.

The Jets went in looking for a $4 million dollar contract, while Trouba filed at $7 million.

The arbitrator deciding instead to split it down the middle.

The Jets have 48 hours to decide if they will accept the arbitrator’s decision.

If the team declines, Trouba becomes an unrestricted free agent for the 2018-19 season.
