Police were called to the area of Gage Avenue North and Barton Street East shortly after 10 a.m. on Wednesday.

Const. Lorraine Edwards tells CHML the male victim is in his mid-50s, but his name has not been released.

She says they have spoken to several witnesses and determined that a work truck hit the cyclist in the intersection, but that the driver failed to remain at the scene.

The intersection was closed for a couple of hours, but has since reopened to traffic.

Anyone with information on the crash is being asked to contact Hamilton Police.
