The Winnipeg Blue Bombers have signed former Saskatchewan Roughrider and Calgary Stampeder Safety and special teams player Jeff Hecht.
The roster opening was created when backup safety and special teams captain Derek Jones suffered a long-term injury in the 31-17 loss at Hamilton on June 29.
Hecht played for the Saint Mary’s Huskies prior to turning pro with Montreal in 2011. The five-foot-nine, 205-pound Edmonton native spent just one season with the Alouettes and then moved on to Calgary for the next four and a half years.
Hecht spent the last season and a half with Saskatchewan before being released by the Roughriders in April.
“He’s good, he’s experienced, he always stays in shape,” said Blue Bombers’ Head Coach Mike O’Shea on his weekly radio show Monday night on 680 CJOB.

“He’s one of those guys, when he’s on the other team – you just – it drives you nuts.”
The Blue Bombers returned to practice on Wednesday to prepare for this weekend’s rematch with the BC Lions in Vancouver after winning the opening game of the home and home series, 41-19 at Investors Group Field last Saturday night.
The broadcast this coming Saturday night gets underway at 7 p.m. CT with the pregame show on 680 CJOB.
