Injured Saskatoon man’s death now considered a homicide

UPDATE: 1st-degree murder charge laid in Saskatoon

Saskatoon police are investigating the death of a man who was found in the Pleasant Hill neighbourhood, which has now been ruled a homicide.

Officers were called to a report of an injured person at the north alley in the 1400-block of 20 Street West just after 5:30 p.m. CT on July 6.

The man was taken to hospital by ambulance, where he later died.

The man was identified by police as 27-year-old Ken Peter Balan on July 11. Police said an autopsy was conducted July 10, and confirmed his death was a homicide.

The major crimes unit said it will not be releasing Balan’s cause of death at this time.
