Phase one of the Regina Bypass is nearing completion as crews conduct finishing work on the mega-project. This includes painting lines, topsoil work and work on the curbs and roundabouts at the Balgonie Overpass.
That overpass work will cause a detour for eastbound traffic that is expected to be in place until the August long weekend.
“The detour will involve them using the north service road as well as the White City Interchange,” Josh Binkley, Regina Bypass phase one area manager explained.
“There’s not much backtracking in fact for any of the residents or anyone using the local businesses. They’ll be going the routes they normally take, just different roads.”
Binkley added that information about the detour is being relayed to Balgonie residents and signage will be clearly posted.

Traffic on Highway 1 east of Regina will not be affected by the finishing work.
As the finishing work draws to a close, Binkley said that crews and construction machinery will move over to phase two and assist in that work.
Phase one involves the area between Highway One/Victoria Avenue and Highway 33/Arcola Avenue on the east side of Regina. Phase two loops south from Highway 33, around the city and back up north to Highway 11.
The end of phase two will mark the full opening of the bypass which is expected to be completed in October 2019. As work continues Binkley asks that drivers continue to mind construction zones and drive safely.
