Winnipeg’s Emily Potter signs contract to play professional basketball in Poland

WINNIPEG – Winnipeg basketball player Emily Potter will be playing professionally in Poland starting in August.

Potter, 22, announced on Twitter she had signed a contract with the Politechnika Gdańska basketball club on Tuesday.

Potter was the first Manitoban to sign in the WNBA but was waived by the Seattle Storm last month.

She recently completed her collegiate career at the University of Utah. In 32 games with the Utes in her senior season Potter averaged 12.1 points per game and 7.3 rebounds per game. She left the program after setting school records for blocks in a career (215) and in a single season (89).

Last week Potter received an invite to attend the Canadian Women’s National Team Program Assessment Camp in Edmonton.

Potter attended Glenlawn Collegiate and helped the Lions win the 2012 AAAA Provincial Girls High School Basketball Championship.
