Back in business: stolen bicycles recovered south of Kelowna

Okanagan tour operator impacted by theft – Jun 8, 2018

Stolen bikes, a truck and custom trailer have been recovered after a police raid south of Kelowna on Tuesday.

Kelowna RCMP say seven people have been arrested after locating the items belonging to Myra Canyon Bike Rentals on June 7.

Police said they executed a search warrant on Beaverdell Station Road off Highway 33. On that property, they recovered four of the stolen tour bikes.

The investigation led them to a second location on Highway 33 near Big White, where police recovered the stolen company F-250 truck and custom trailer loaded with bicycles belonging to the Kelowna tour company.

Police also recovered a Jeep Patriot reported stolen from Kimberley, and a Volkswagen Jetta stolen from Kelowna.

“The Kelowna RCMP Target team were able to identify a residence and execute a search warrant at the property,” Cst. Lesley Smith of the Kelowna RCMP Detachment said. “This investigation led to the recovery of over $100,000 in stolen property and the arrest of multiple well known criminals.”

A womand and six men were arrested at the scene with one man remaining in police custody on an outstanding warrant for an unrelated matter, according to RCMP.

ORIGINAL STORY:

Police in Kelowna are investigating the overnight theft of 45 bicycles from Myra Canyon Bike Rentals.

RCMP said in a press release on Thursday that a Ford F-250 truck and a customized bike trailer were taken sometime between Wednesday night and Thursday morning.

Police said they were alerted of the theft, which took place on McCulloch Road, just after 8 a.m. on Thursday. A spokesperson for Myra Canyon Bike Rentals said the theft took place at 12:15 a.m.

Police said the suspect, or suspects, stole the white 2007 truck along with the black, customized 20-foot trailer and the 38 Giant brand mountain bikes it contained. Also stolen were four additional kids’ bikes, three Norco bikes, two blue bicycle stands and 60 helmets.

“We are confident that motorists in the Central Okanagan would have remembered seeing the stolen vehicle and unique trailer mobile on our roadways, either sometime late last night or early this morning,” RCMP Cpl. Jesse O’Donaghey said Thursday.

“We want to hear about all possible sightings of the stolen pickup truck and trailer and from anyone with any information that would be of assistance in the ongoing theft investigation.”
