Two people are facing a number of charges after allegedly shooting at RCMP officers while fleeing from a theft at a gas station in Lashburn, Sask.
A black Dodge Caravan taxi used in the theft, which had been reported stolen the previous day in Regina, was spotted heading east on Highway 16 by officers from the Maidstone RCMP detachment.
Police said shots were fired at officers when the van stopped west of Delmas and a RCMP officer returned fire.
RCMP said a vehicle was then used to strike the van, causing it to become stuck in the ditch.
Police said someone in the van then pointed a gun at officers and a member fired their gun.
A North Battleford RCMP police dog help with the arrest of a man and a woman. The woman had to be treated for minor injuries she received for dog bites during the arrest.
No other injuries were reported.
Tristan Pinder, 19, from Elk Point, Alta., and Verena Petruka, 30, from Melville, Sask., are charged with discharging a firearm with intent, assaulting a police officer, flight from police, dangerous operation of a motor vehicle, theft and possession of stolen property.
Pinder is also charged with failing to comply with a recognizance.
They are scheduled to appear Monday morning in North Battleford provincial court.
