The Manitoba Junior Hockey League’s signature event of the season — the Turnbull Cup Championship Series — will resume on Thursday, April 12 in the aftermath of the Humboldt Broncos bus crash on Friday that claimed the lives of 15 players and team personnel.
On Saturday Night, the MJHL announced the postponement of Game Two of the series between the regular season champion Steinbach Pistons and Virden Oil Capitals that was scheduled for Sunday Night in Virden.
MJHL Commissioner Kim Davis told Global News Radio 680 CJOB’s Morning show that discussions were held Monday with both participating teams.
“Our own players, coaches, and trainers have experienced some trauma with this. I don’t know what the way to do this is or what the answer is. I honestly don’t,” Davis said.
Davis said the league was just trying to come to a resolution on this and felt at the time it would “likely be during the week we’re in now.”
Virden won Friday Night’s opening game 2-1. The eventual winner of the series will advance to play the Saskatchewan Junior League Champion in the Anavet Cup playoff to determine a Western Representative in the RBC Cup scheduled for May 12-20 in Chilliwack, BC.
