‘It’s a nightmare’: Wintry weather wallops weary Montrealers

If you thought spring had fully sprung, you may have had a rude awakening Wednesday morning. A cocktail of precipitation and unseasonably cold weather made it a tough slog to work.

“It’s a nightmare,” said Vlad Czernota, who works in NDG.

Montrealers woke up to roads and cars covered in snow and temperatures hovering around 0 C.

“I’m ready for it to be done. I want sunshine,” said Andrew Lamica, who works at the McGill University Health Centre (MUHC).

Snow quickly turned into rain and freezing rain.

“I was ready to rake my lawn this past weekend,” said Nick Patulli. “Then you see this, and you get sort of depressed and say ‘winter is still here.'”

According to Environment Canada, it’s just under 10 C colder than it should be this time of year.

“It’s a winter storm in April,” said Environment Canada meteorologist Steve Boily.

At Nelson Garage in NDG, people had been lined up to remove their winter tires before the storm. On Wednesday a few people showed up to switch their tires.

“I had two cancellations already this morning with the announcement of some snow coming on Friday,” Gord Nelson told Global News.

Environment Canada says more snow is on the way.

“Friday night into Saturday morning we will get a system that will pass very quickly and leave another five centimetres of snow,” Boily said.

The meteorologist says more spring-like weather should be on tap soon.

“I’m betting on next week. We should be getting more into the average temperatures for this time of year, seven or eight degrees,” Boily said.
