The province’s Special Investigations Unit (SIU) says it’s investigating a fatal police-involved shooting in Hamilton.
The SIU said in a statement that Hamilton police were called about a man who was reportedly armed on Caledon Avenue, near Upper James Street and Mohawk Road West, at around 3:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
“Police attended the area and became involved in an interaction with a 19-year-old man,” the statement said, without elaborating on the nature of the interaction.
Two police officers shot the man, the SIU said. He was subsequently taken to hospital where he later died.
The SIU is an independent enforcement agency that investigates incidents involving police that have resulted in death, serious injury or alleged sexual assault.
Anyone with information or video footage is asked to call the SIU at 1-800-787-8529.
