Power outage forces class cancellations at University of Manitoba

Some University of Manitoba students got to have an extra long weekend.

A power outage forced the cancellation of classes Monday in seven buildings at the Fort Garry campus.

  • Biological Sciences Building
  • Fitzgerald Building
  • Wallace Building
  • Education Building
  • St. John’s College and Residence
  • St. Paul’s College

The cause of the outage, which began Sunday and required students in residence to be relocated, remains under investigation.

As of 9 a.m. Monday, U of M staff said engineers were working to determine if the electrical failure was internal or a Manitoba Hydro issue.

The university said power should be restored later in the day and expected classes would resume Tuesday.
