WinSport to extend season with extra weekend of skiing, snowboarding in April

WinSport ski hill in Calgary. Global News

Record snowfall in March and unseasonably cool temperatures in the Calgary area have allowed WinSport to extend its season a little longer by opening the ski hill for an additional weekend in April.

Officials said the hill will be closed next week, but will open, along with the Acura Tube Park, on Saturday, April 7 and Sunday, April 6.

Private and group lessons will also be available for those who need them.

Conditions remain favourable on the hill, WinSport staff said.

“We currently have a solid base of about one metre right now,” director of venues, Mike Tanner, said. “Normally, at this time of year, we would have about half that.”

“This is the best base of snow we’ve had in recent memory at this time of year, so we’re excited to give skiers and snowboarders one extra weekend to carve turns or slide down the tube park in these fantastic conditions.”

The park is hosting the “Suns Out Guns Out” rail jam both days to allow intermediate and advanced snowboarders and skiers to show off their skills. Registration for that event is $20.

There will also be special pricing for lift tickets on both days, which will be announced on April 2.

Special Legacy ’88 pricing remains in effect for the Acura Tube Park.
