The Canadian Armed Forces will be removing the Niska Bridge in Guelph this week.
The city closed the bridge in the southwest corner of Guelph last year after it reached the end of its lifespan. Preparations to build a new two-lane bridge are currently underway.

A spokesperson for the 31 Combat Engineer Regiment, based in St. Thomas and Waterloo, said the need to remove the existing bridge created a training opportunity.
Their operation will start on Monday, but the dismantling of the bridge won’t happen until the weekend.
As an advisory to nearby residents, the unit said soldiers will be dressed in combat uniforms, and a variety of vehicles and equipment will be used throughout the exercise.
No weapons will be carried and there will be no use of ammunition and explosives.
