Calgary police have charged a Ponoka woman for allegedly threatening a naturist swimming event.

On Jan. 8, police received a report of a threat to the Southland Leisure Centre where the Calgary Nude Recreation Club had sold tickets for a private, after-hours swim night.

Word of the event prompted an online petition urging the club to cancel the swim, and the leisure centre’s Facebook page was inundated with negative comments that included references to baseball bats.

Police did a risk assessment and decided to cancel the event.

After an investigation, Ponoka RCMP arrested Arie Christine Guthrie. She is charged with one count of uttering threats, police said.

Guthrie is scheduled to appear in court April 6.
