More than 8,500 people in Manitoba were without power Monday morning due to the heavy snow.
That number has come down significantly throughout the day.
By late afternoon around 3,500 Hydro customers were still without power, only 45 of those are in Winnipeg.
Manitoba Hydro’s Anthony Koop says it’s the sticky snow that’s causing the problem.
“We’ve got wet, heavy snow sticking to our lines, causing some difficulties, some outages. We’ve got wires that have been pulled down, cross arms broken,” he said.
He says outside of Winnipeg, it’s been difficult to get crews out to make repairs.
“Hopefully with the daylight and a bit of warmer weather, we’ll start to see some of that snow melting off the lines. We are also planning in some situations to send crews out to remove the snow to reduce that strain on the equipment and avoid any further outages that way,” he said.
