2 men arrested after firearms incidents in eastern Alberta, additional charges laid

Two Fishing Lake, Alta. men have been remanded into custody after their early morning arrest Friday following two separate firearm incidents.

First, on Feb. 23 at around 12:30 p.m., a driver reported to Elk Point RCMP that they had narrowly avoided a collision with another vehicle in the Fishing Lake area. It was reported that someone in the vehicle pointed a gun at the driver before driving away.

Then, on Feb. 28 at around 9:45 p.m., police received a report of gunshots being fired at a home in Fishing Lake from a passing vehicle. Witnesses said the vehicle sped away after the shots.

Austin Don Crevier, 21, and Andy George Lacombe, 22, are both facing a number of charges, including possession of a firearm while prohibited and careless use of a firearm.

Eight additional charges have been laid against Lacombe that include weapons and firearms offences. He also has conditions not to be in the Fishing Lake Metis Settlement or near its boundaries.

Crevier is facing four additional weapons and firearms charges.

Police said early Friday morning, RCMP members from Elk Point, Bonnyville, and St. Paul detachments along with the eastern Alberta crime reduction unit, police dog services and emergency response team arrested both men.

“The arrest of these two individuals halted further potential harm to community members and has brought 31 charges before the courts,” Sgt. Terry Hyggen, Elk Point RCMP detachment commander said in a news release on Monday. “We will continue to focus our efforts on repeat offenders in keeping with our crime reduction strategies.”

The two are scheduled to appear in St. Paul Provincial Court on March 8 via CCTV. Police said there was no further risk to the community at this time.
