Saskatoon Light & Power rates on the rise

Rates are going up on March 1 for Saskatoon Light & Power customers after city council approved a 3.5 per cent rate hike.

The average residential customer can expect to see a monthly increase of approximately $4 to their bill.

The increase is in line with the recently approved 3.5 per cent SaskPower rate increase that also goes into effect on March 1.

SaskPower had initially been seeking to increase rates by five per cent.

Saskatoon Light & Power officials said there are ways homeowners can reduce their energy consumption:

  • Ensure homes are well insulated and properly sealed.
  • Replace appliances with energy efficient models.
  • Install programmable thermostats and place lights on automatic timers.
