Emergency crews are clearing an accident at the overpass on Highway 97 near UBC Okanagan that sent three people to hospital Friday evening.

RCMP said a speeding southbound sedan jumped the median and struck a northbound SUV head-on.

The collision, which happened around 5:30 p.m., closed down the northbound lanes of the highway for more than an hour.

Police said three of the five people involved in the crash were taken to hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

Traffic was backed up for kilometres south of the crash on Highway 97 and feeder streets.

The sedan driver is expected to face a ticket and fine.
