Port Elgin man charged with extortion of woman he met online

A 41-year-old man from Port Elgin is facing charges of extortion and harassment.

From March 2015 to February 2018, Hamilton police say a man sent thousands of text messages and emails to a woman he met on a dating site. Her identity is being withheld by police.

Police say the man used an alias while allegedly attempting to extort the female by threatening to send personal information about her to her family.

Hamilton police central detectives with the assistance of the Hamilton police tech crime unit and Saugeen Shores police executed a search warrant in Port Elgin on Feb 20. It resulted in the arrest of a man and the seizure of cellphones and computers.

George Condy is facing charges of four counts of extortion and one count of harassment.
