Anthony Ringel, of nearby Chesley, was initially charged in 2004 with first-degree murder in connection with the case.
He spent 22 months in prison before the charge was stayed before the matter came to trial due to how provincial police handled evidenced gathered in the investigation.
Police continued to look into the girl’s disappearance in 2010, an investigation they say led to a new charge against Ringel.
Forty-four-year-old Ringel has been charged with first-degree murder following his arrest last night.
He is scheduled to appear in a Walkerton court this afternoon.
