SIDEBAR – The Association for Reformed Political Action (ARPA Canada) has been one of Bill Whatcott’s most ardent supporters. It equates defending his right to disseminate homophobic flyers with protecting freedom of speech.
“Whatcott may not represent our views; in fact, we may completely disagree with him. But he does represent each Canadian in that he, like all of us, has a right to engage in public policy debate,” said ARPA Canada member Andre Schutten.
ARPA Canada’s website describes its mission is: “to educate, equip, and encourage Reformed Christians to political action and to bring a biblical perspective to our civil authorities.”

“For many reasons, including the inefficient use of government funds for revenue generation, the social ills it causes (including 200 suicides a year!), the undermining of the integrity of sport, and the dubious democratic process employed in this instance, we all need to urge the Senate to exercise their role as the Chamber of Sober Second Thought, and to stop the passage of Bill C-290.”

“WHEREAS, the terms ‘gender identity’ and ‘gender expression’ are undefined in law; and WHEREAS gender is a biological and objectively measurable identifying characteristic; and WHEREAS social-scientific, medical, psychological and psychiatric research remains far from settled on the harm or good of embracing gender non-conforming behaviour; and WHEREAS the inclusion of subjective terms like ‘gender identity’ and ‘gender expression’ in our laws provide cover for criminals who would use such language to justify their own conduct; and WHEREAS those who identity as transsexual or transgendered are already fully protected by the Charter, the Criminal Code and a legal system that recognizes every citizen as equal before the law”

“Most important, it is not up to government to redefine gender to begin with. The civil government’s role is to promote justice and freedom, not engineer society according to how people feel.
Instead of trying to appease every interest group, our nation should focus on strengthening the institutions in society that are pivotal to a healthy nation. Marriage and the family should be at the top of that list.”
