One man has died following an incident that ended in an officer-involved shooting Saturday night.
Police were called to an apartment building in the 600 block of 68 Avenue SW around 9 p.m. for reports of a disturbance inside one of the residences.
“This call was a report of a man yelling and screaming and throwing things in the second story hallway,” deputy chief of police Bob Ritchie said.
Officers attempted to make contact with one man inside that residence related to the call. They said they negotiated with the man for 30 minutes before the situation escalated.

Police said the man then jumped from the second-floor balcony and confronted officers, which resulted in an officer-involved shooting.
“One of our officers was faced with one of the most difficult situations imaginable and was required to use lethal force,” Ritchie said, adding that the officer was a 10-year member of the Calgary Police Service.
Officers provided emergency first aid to the 43-year-old man until EMS arrived on scene. He was transported to the hospital in life-threatening condition, where he died at around 2:30 Sunday morning.
“The man involved in this incident has no criminal history, however, we have had interactions with him in the past,” Ritchie said.
Police can’t yet say whether drug use was involved.
The Alberta Serious Incident Response Team said Monday it is investigating the incident.
It added investigators found a hatchet and multiple knives from the alley.
