The Kingston Police emergency response team surrounded a house on Glen Cairn Terrace in the Henderson Place neighbourhood just after 3 a.m. after reports of a dispute between a young man and his parents. One of the parents was assaulted and both fled the house before police arrived. The extent of injuries isn’t known.

“There were several weapons involved in it, and one of the weapons involved was a hockey stick and there were some threats with a crossbow,” Kingston Police Sergeant Jay Finn said.

The tense standoff ended peacefully several hours later, just after 9 a.m., when police escorted a suspect out of the house.

It was an unusual sight for residents of the west-end Kingston neighbourhood, who woke to Kingston Police vehicles closing off public access to Glen Cairn Terrace, while tactical officers coordinated efforts to remove a male suspect from this home.

“It scared my daughter,” said April Hagar, Glen Terrace resident. “She (was) coming out to start her car to go to work and they yell ‘Get in the house, get in the house!'”

“I was a bit taken aback I guess. But it looked like they were all in control,” said another Glen Cairn resident, Corrie Barrett.

Thomas Neumann, 18, is facing charges of assault with a weapon, assault causing bodily harm, uttering threats and weapons dangerous. He remains in police custody and will appear in bail court on Thursday.
