TORONTO – The Toronto Transit Commission’s (TTC) decision last fall to outsource bus servicing and cleaning contracts won’t save the city as much as previously thought, according to an internal report.
The TTC voted 4-3 in favour of outsourcing approximately 150 cleaning jobs on September 28, 2012.
It was estimated the City of Toronto would save $4.29 million but a recent TTC report has indicated otherwise.
“The previously projected average annual TTC savings once all bus servicing and cleaning has been contracted out has been revised from $4.29 million to $2.93 million to reflect revised HST calculations,” the report wrote.

Toronto city councillor Maria Aguimeri expressed her dismay on the recent findings via Twitter Monday morning.
“Due 2 a “calculation error” the $4.3 mill we were told we’d save by privatizing #TTC cleaners will only be $2.9m. Pretty huge “oops” #TOpoli,” Aguimeri wrote.
