Ferry rates increase by four per cent for Newfoundland-Nova Scotia routes

HALIFAX – Marine Atlantic is raising its travelling rates by four per cent for 2013-14.

The rate increase is effective April 1.

There are no changes to the fuel surcharge or security fees.

The Crown corporation says the new ferry schedule will also see some reductions in the number of ferry crossings available in late fall, winter and spring, when demand decreases.

A spokesman for the agency says Marine Atlantic anticipates there will be a reduction of about six per cent in sailings in those seasons.
