An 88-year-old woman is dead after a fire tore through a mixed-use building on Guizot Street in Montreal’s Villeray-Parc-Extension-Saint-Michel borough.
The five-alarm fire broke out at 1:30 a.m. on Tuesday.
The three-storey building houses a bakery on the ground floor and apartments above.
Police said the apartments were evacuated and it was only after the fire was brought under control that firefighters discovered the woman’s body inside the building.
