Woman, 29, dies after truck hits pedestrian in southwest Edmonton crosswalk

A 29-year-old woman died in hospital after she was hit by a truck early Tuesday morning in southwest Edmonton.

The crash happened at around 6:30 a.m. on James Mowatt Trail SW in the Allard neighbourhood.

Police said the woman walking east across James Mowatt Trail in an unmarked crosswalk, from Desrochers Gate SW to Allard Boulevard SW, when she was struck by a Dodge Ram driven by a 43-year-old man. The driver quickly called 911, police said.

The 29-year-old was treated on scene and taken to hospital where she was declared dead. The woman’s family was notified.

Officers with EPS Major Collision Investigation Section continue to investigate, but police do not believe drugs or alcohol were a factor in the crash. No charges have been laid at this time.

Police said this is Edmonton’s 29th traffic fatality of the year.
