An official at the Lake Louise Ski Resort has confirmed STARS was called to the hill Tuesday afternoon after a 17-year-old skier competing at the Nor-Am Cup was injured.
Dan Markham told Global News there was an accident at the resort, and emergency crews were helping the teen.
Calgary EMS have confirmed crews from Banff were the first to treat the boy on the hill before he was flown by STARS to Foothills Hospital.
They said the crash happened around 2:20 p.m. and the boy is now in Calgary.
Lake Louise did not release the name of the skier.
In an emailed statement, Alpine Canada and Alberta Alpine said they were saddened to report a racer was “severely injured.”
“Alpine Canada, Alberta Alpine and the entire ski racing community has this young athlete, his teammates and family in our thoughts,” the statement reads.
“We are cooperating and working closely with authorities and event stakeholders regarding this accident.”
According to the Nor-Am website, training runs were being completed Tuesday and Wednesday with races beginning Thursday.
