A 31-year-old Edmonton man has been charged after police said a three-year-old girl was taken from her mother’s home on Thursday.
At around 8:45 a.m. Thursday, police were called to a home in the city’s northwest.
Police said a woman in the home was allegedly assaulted by her former common-law partner.
It’s alleged the three-year-old was taken by her biological father, who “had conditions not to be at that residence,” EPS spokesperson Scott Pattison said Thursday night.
Police said Friday the man threatened to harm the woman and the child.
The girl was located at a home in Spruce Grove on Thursday afternoon. She was returned to her mother unharmed, Pattison said.
At around 3:30 p.m., RCMP asked people at the east end of Hawthorne Gate in Spruce Grove to remain in their homes. Other people were asked to avoid the area.
Pattison said a man was inside the residence for “some time” before he was arrested. The RCMP’s Emergency Response Team (ERT) was called in to assist with the arrest.
Shortly after 8 p.m., RCMP said it was safe for residents to resume activities in the area.
The man has since been charged with abduction, assault, uttering threats, mischief under $5,000 and breach of condition.
The man, whose name has not been released, remained in police custody Friday.
