A Peterborough man faces numerous charges following a student housing rental scam investigation.
Police allege the man posted an online ad for a rental home in Peterborough which he knew was either being sold or was about to be foreclosed.
However, he collected first and last months’ rent from post-secondary students.
“When a group of students returned to their rental home in late September 2017, they found a foreclosure notice on the door,” police stated.

The address of the home was not released.
On Monday, police arrested Sean Paul Cowling, 45, of King Street, and charged with him seven counts each of fraud under $5,000 and obtaining a false pretence. He made court appearances on Monday and Tuesday.
Police continue to investigate.
“The investigation is ongoing,” police stated. “Police believe there may still be other victims and are encouraging anyone with similar concerns or experience to come forward.”
