The St. Louis Hotel in downtown Calgary is now available for local businesses looking to set up shop in a new location.
On Tuesday, the Calgary Municipal Land Corporation (CMLC) announced they had issued a request for proposal (RFP) to identify potential businesses that could move into the main floor and basement of the historic building.
Construction on the St. Louis Hotel began in 1913 ahead of the arrival of the Grand Trunk Pacific (GTP) railway. The hotel opened a year later, and originally included 60 rooms, a café, barbershop and cigar stand.
The CMLC purchased the hotel in 2007 and completed a $9.2-million renovation on the building before moving its office headquarters into the upper second and third floors in July 2016.
“The building offers over 5,000 square feet of commercial opportunity; the base building improvements are all complete and the space is ready to receive tenant finishes,” Susan Veres with CMLC said in a news release. “We are seeking a fresh entrepreneurial idea that both compliments our retail vision for the community and aligns with the living needs of our current and future residents.”

The RFP is open until Jan. 31, 2018.
