City of Winnipeg to enforce over 600 by-law provisions

Winnipeg City Hall. Global News / File

As of Monday, a change to by-law provisions will be enforced by the City of Winnipeg under the Municipal By-Law Enforcement act.

The City said paying or disputing a penalty notice will be faster and more convenient than the old process. Over 600-by law offences with present fines of under $1,000 for infractions will also be enforced by the Municipal By-Law Enforcement act.

Residents who receive a penalty on or after November 20th, will have two options: pay the violation or request a review.

Payment options include paying online, by phone at 311, in person at 495 Portage Avenue or by mail.

With the new enforcement, Winnipeggers will now have the chance to have their challenge heard by a screening officer appointed by the City at the Winnipeg Parking Authority office. Previously, residents would have to take their objection to provincial court and wait months for their challenge to be heard.

Any people with non-parking related tickets received before November 20th, 2017, are still required to contest them at Provincial Court.
