WINNIPEG – After taking part in practice the past two days Winnipeg Blue Bombers quarterback Matt Nichols was a no show for the start of practice on Friday. And while his absence might have caused a mild panic for some fans, it had absolutely nothing to do with the calf injury that’s bothered him the past two weeks.

Nichols was with his wife who was giving birth to their second child. There’s a new girl in the Nichols family after Matt and his wife Ali welcomed Parker Winnie Lou Nichols into the world on Friday morning.

“I think his family is doing well.” head coach Mike O’Shea said. “Apparently there’s another redhead ready to take over the planet, so that’s perfect.”

Despite being a non-participant on Friday all signs still point to Nichols starting in the Western Semifinal on Sunday against the Edmonton Eskimos. O’Shea still wasn’t prepared to name his starting quarterback though and was asked if Nichols status remained unchanged.

“Unchanged for me, yup.” O’Shea said.
