Bridgewater police looking for person of interest in suspicious downtown fire

Bridgewater police have identified a person of interest as they investigate a suspicious fire that swept through the downtown earlier this week.

Fire crews spent more than 12 hours battling the blaze on Oct. 22, which heavily damaged several older-style buildings on King Street.

Police say after interviewing witnesses and viewing security tapes from the area, they can confirm the fire began “within the centre of the structure.” That’s where Big Daddy Liquidation and Geeky Robar’s Computer Repair were located.

Police have also identified a person of interest seen leaving the building before the fire was reported. They say the person is seen wearing dark clothing and walked northbound from the scene.

Security footage shows there were several possible witnesses, including pedestrians and people in vehicles.

Bridgewater police are asking anyone who was in the downtown core between 9:45 and 10:30 p.m. that night and who may have information about the fire to contact them at 902-543-2464.
