“Canada’s most walkable cities and neighbourhoods make it easier for residents to leave their cars at home more often which is great for your wallet, health, environmental impact, and quality of life,” Walk Score CEO Josh Herst says.
A recent study by Toronto Public Health found people leaned heavily towards cities offering shops and services close to home, a short commute to work or school, and easy access to public transit. The study also found that people living in walkable cities had lower body weights and these neighbourhoods offered better air quality and reduced traffic.
In B.C. the top most walkable cities behind Vancouver are Victoria (78), North Vancouver (73), White Rock (72) and New Westminster (70).
