Investigators continue to probe the cause of a fire at a cottage on Eagle Lake in the Municipality of Dysart et al on Monday morning.

Crews responded around 11 a.m. and discovered the structure on Benson Cove Lane on fire. The Dysart Fire Department requested assistance from the Minden Fire Department to battle the blaze, about 15 kilometres north of Haliburton.

“The Dysart department had 14 firefighters and five firetrucks respond but the fire had progressed too far upon arrival and were unable to save any of the structure,” stated Dysart fire chief Mike Iles.

He said there was no one home at the time. The fire also destroyed a small tool shed.

Total damage is estimated at $300,000.

“The cottage is a total loss,” said Iles.

The cause of the fire has yet to be determined.
