Police charge mother’s boyfriend with murder in death of Alberta toddler

A 35-year-old man has been arrested and charged in connection to the death of a toddler in northeastern Alberta.

Sherman Robert Whitford has been charged with one count of second-degree murder.

Sixteen-month-old Veronica Poitras was taken to hospital in Cold Lake by a family member on Aug. 26, police said. Veronica was taken to an Edmonton hospital a short time later, where she was taken off life support and pronounced dead three days later.
