How to beat Blue Monday, nicknamed the saddest day of the year

TORONTO – You may have had a sudden urge to snuggle a puppy, eat a cupcake or cry yourself to sleep tonight. But don’t worry, this is a fleeting moment of sadness as the world marks Blue Monday.

Blue Monday is allegedly the “most depressing day of the year,” according to a Cardiff University researcher. His formula is based on six factors, but keep in the mind, its critics note that it’s not supported by the scientific community. It was introduced seven years ago.

“The formula calculates that Monday (the 21st) is symbolically the worst day of 2013, when the Christmas glow has faded away, New Year’s resolutions have been broken, cold Winter weather has set in and credit card bills will be landing on doormats across the land – while the January pay-cheque is still some way away,” the day’s website explains.
