19 thefts from vehicles in Halifax since Oct. 1: RCMP

Halifax District RCMP say that they’ve received 19 reports of thefts from vehicles since the beginning of the month.

Police say that the thefts have occurred throughout the Halifax Regional Municipality (HRM), including in Tantallon, Fall River, Fletchers Lake, Lower Sackville and Eastern Passage.

Sunglasses, cellphones, personal identification and money were among the items stolen.

As a result of the high number of incidents, the Mounties are recommending that residents in the HRM remove valuables from their vehicles and lock their vehicle doors.

Of the 19 vehicles that were broken into, 16 had their doors unlocked.

“Thieves look for vehicles that are easy to enter,” says Cpl. Dal Hutchinson, Halifax District RCMP.

“By locking your vehicle’s doors and removing valuables, you make your vehicle less attractive to thieves.”

The Mounties are asking anyone with information about the incidents to contact RCMP at 902-490-5020 or to call Nova Scotia Crime Stoppers.
