What began as a date on Halifax’s downtown boardwalk ended with an attempted murder investigation.

The incident, which a police spokesperson describes as “bizarre,” happened at around 7:30 p.m. on Oct. 15.

Halifax Regional Police say a 22-year-old man had driven to the boardwalk, in the area of Bishop’s Landing, to meet a woman he had been dating.

Police say while the driver was waiting for his date, two men he didn’t know got into his car and robbed him. The driver would later tell police that he believed one suspect had a knife, while the other had a gun.

“It could have been a lot worse than it was considering that the car was driven on the boardwalk, which is frequented by a lot of people,” said Penfound.

“No one else was injured thankfully.”

The driver of the car was arrested about two hours later at a residence in Hammonds Plains. He now faces one count each of attempted murder, assault, dangerous operation of a motor vehicle, mischief and leaving the scene of an accident.

The 19-year-old man from Dartmouth who was struck by the car was arrested Monday night at a residence on Jackson Road and charged with robbery, uttering threats, possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, possession of a firearm and breach of probation.
