A Halifax couple has made the difficult decision to put down the family’s dog after it was injured in an attack outside their home this week.
Eugenie the Chihuahua was in a fenced-in porch with a second Chihuahua on Monday night when a passerby allegedly threw a wooden sign at her.

Eugenie lost an eye and suffered a shattered jaw in the incident.
Her owner, Lorne Wilson, says he came out of his house and confronted the suspect, who was walking his own dog.
According to Wilson, the suspect kept referring to the signs the family had recently put on their lawn asking owners to keep dogs off their garden.
Wilson and his wife Natalie made the decision to put Eugenie down on Tuesday after consulting with a veterinarian.
“We’re hurting right now and the outpouring of support from our friends, colleagues and neighbours is so amazing,” said Natalie.

The 36-year-old suspect has been charged with assault with a weapon, possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose and injuring or endangering an animal.
He was released from custody and is scheduled to appear in Halifax Provincial Court on Nov. 21.
The Wilsons say they plan to follow the case.
“We are 100 per cent committed to ensuring justice gets served for our little princess,” said Natalie.
