The Calgary Police Service (CPS) is partnering with various agencies in the area to support people experiencing distress after the deadly shooting in Las Vegas, along with provide information to people trying to support those in distress.

“Large criminal incidents can often impact people’s feelings of safety and well-being, even for people not directly involved in the incident,” police said in a Wednesday statement.
“Everyone responds differently to large-scale events, such as the recent shootings in Las Vegas and it is important that anyone struggling to process their thoughts or emotions reaches out for help.”

The Calgary Police Service Victim Assistance Unit, Calgary Distress Centre, Alberta Health Services Mobile Response Team and victim assistance teams from Okotoks and Airdrie will co-host the session Friday, Oct. 13 at CPS headquarters.
Police said the session will go through different ways people process traumatic experiences and how to work through them in a healthy way. The statement said it’s not a counselling session, but people can be referred to other such supports by partner agency representatives.
The event is free. No tickets are required but anyone willing to RSVP can do so here.
The session will be held at Calgary Police Service Headquarters at 5111 47 Street N.E. from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 13.
